Coolwhip Corner Feature Player – Andy Bloch

October 23, 2009 in Coolwhip Corner by coolwhipflea

Andy BlochThere are only a handful of poker professionals that have had as much success at the tables as Andy Bloch.  In fact, according to the Hendon Mob Database, Andy Ranks 58th on the all time money list with just over $4.2 million won in live poker tournaments.  In 2005, Andy was one of the first players to join Team Full Tilt on Full Tilt Poker.com, a group of some of the most elite poker players ever assembled.

Andy’s most publicized poker results came from the World Series of Poker, where Andy took down 2nd place in the $10,000 inaugural HORSE event in 2006, to the late legendary Chip Reese.  In an epic heads up battle that lasted hours, Andy had Reese all in for his life four different times, with Reese pulling out the victory each time, until eventually he would get Andy all in and win it.  The event would later be renamed with the winner in future HORSE championship events claiming the “Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.”  The second place finish netted Andy a whopping $1,029,600 for overcoming the star studded field.

Andy would again find himself heads up for yet another bracelet in the 2008 $10,000 buy in Pot Limit Hold Em’ event.  This time, Andy was pitted against pro sensation Nenad Medic and found himself with about a 2 to 1 chip disadvantage when heads up play began.  Never really able to even the counts, Andy found his final hand all in with 99 vs. Medic’s 7h-5h.  The flop would come out 8h-5s-4h, and the two players bet it all in, with Andy being covered.  The turn was a tough Jh, which gave Andy two pair, but Medic a heart flush.  The river was a meaningless 5c, and gave Nenad the bracelet.

In all, Andy’s WSOP resume includes 23 WSOP cashes for $2,068,042.  Andy has also found great success at the poker tables through the WPT where he has another 8 cashes including 2 final tables for a total of $407,760.

As successful as Andy has been on the poker felt, and he’s one of the best of all time, poker may not actually be Andy’s best game.  Andy was a party of the infamous MIT Blackjack Team which won millions of dollars from the Vegas Casinos.  The MIT team had a brilliant story, perfectly encapsulated in an article featured in Northeast Hartford Courant Magazine Section. As a result of Andy’s involvement with the Blackjack Team, there are still several Casino’s today that won’t allow Andy access to any part of their casino, and many casino’s that require Andy notify them prior to his arrival.  Not too many people on earth can claim that distinction.

In 1999, Andy graduated from Harvard Law and passed the Bar Exam to become an attorney. Today, Andy is also a member of the Leadership Council for Bad Beat on Cancer along with the likes of Phil Gordon, Rafe Furst, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth Jr. Annie Duke, and others.  He will be playing with the Twitter Poker Tour on November the 15th in it’s 2nd Charity Poker Tournament to benefit Bad Beat on Cancer.
