Richard Ashby

Richard Ashby

One of the single most difficult tasks in poker is successfully working up the ranks from small stakes to large stakes.  British Full Tilt Poker pro Richard Ashby began learning the game with his father, and then found great success at the £10 Buy in 7-Card Stud Tournament at his local casino. While studying at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, Richard began discovering even greater success at the online tables.

Recognizing his transferable skills from his job as an Options and Future Market Maker to that of the poker table, Richard began building his bankroll online under the name “Chufty”, and saw great success almost immediately.  Dominating one ring game after another, Ashby was soon finding that his natural aggression was an asset, and his successes at the table led Richard to turn pro in 2003.

Primarily a cash game player, Richard is a high stakes gamer commonly found at the highest of stakes of short handed Pot Limit Hold Em’, and the $200/$400 levels and higher of Pot Limit Omaha, where Richard has had many successful sessions.   In fact, in February of 2008, “Chufty” was the biggest online PLO winner, raking over $788k in profit.  Not a bad month.

Richard’s poker success extends far beyond the internet as he has seen more than 30 live cashes as well.  In all, Richard has scored more than $620,000 playing live tournaments including large scores at the Aussie Millions this past January, where Richard scored two final tables within 3 days of each other.  He finished 7th in both the $1,000 Hold Em’ championship and the $10,000 No Limit Hold Em’ Championship, netting a total of $16,152 and $106,555 respectively.  He’s also seen large cashes at the World Series of Poker with 8 different cashes at multiple events, with two cashes coming at WSOP Final tables.  While not a common household name, Ashby is certainly a player that others try to avoid at the tables.

Since joining Full Tilt Poker as a Red Pro, Richard has tossed the “Chufty” name by the wayside, and now appears as Richard Ashby in red.  You can find Richard in the highest stakes mixed games on Full Tilt Poker quite often, playing against the likes of Ivey, Durrrrr, and Antonius, and you can play against him on November 15th in the Bad Beat on Cancer Tournament on Full Tilt Poker.
