Phil Ivey Survives Day 1

Its OVER!  Day 1 is finished.  It took four days to complete the day, but we have an official tournament, and what a tournament it is.  A total of 2,391 Players hit the felt today to bring the 4 day tournament total to a whopping 7,319 players.  To put it in perspective, this is now the 2nd largest live poker tournament history ever.  And it showed as there were plenty of survivors.   We finally found out what we were playing for in terms of monies, and that total is a piece of the $68,798,600 prize pool, of which $8,944,138 will be awarded to our eventual winner in November.

Those that won’t be returning on Saturday for their shot include the likes of Joe Hachem, Phil Gordon, John Juanda, Steve Dannenmann, Sorel Mizzi, Brian Townsend, Noah Boeken, and NFL Hall of Famer, Emmitt Smith.

But those still very much alive, and hoping for their shot at poker immortality include the likes of Phil Ivey, Doyle Brunson, Darvin Moon, Andy Bloch, David Benyamine, Jason Mercier, Allen Cunningham, Bill Chen, Steve Billirakis and about 1700 others.

Tomorrow begins the very first day 2 of the tournament, and we’re expecting that they’ll play another 4 ½ levels again, though in speaking with one of the Assistant Tournament Directors, that really falls on the shoulders of the very capable Jack Effell.

See you tomorrow for more action from the Rio.
