2010 WSOP – Day 2a recap
Day 2a is in the books, with roughly 1,200 people surviving the massive carnage to get to day 3, and boy did they deserve it. As the days get close to the money, chip counts are growing increasingly important, and some of the biggest stacks belonged to some of the biggest names in poker.
How about Johnny Chan, who finished the day with about 280k, Cole ‘CTS’ South bagged over 300k, and big stacks Patrik Antonius (250k), Robert Mizrachi (267k), Sammy Farha (227k), and Michael ‘The Grinder’ Mizrachi (200k). Pretty impressive. Also making it through with more than 200k include Praz Bansi, Amanda ‘MandyB’ Baker, Carter Phillips, and Yevgeniy Timoshenko, and a host of others.
Other notables to survive the day and still healthy include Matt Matros (190k), Adam Junglen (181k), Lauren Kling (177k) and Annie Duke (176k).
Of course, there were plenty of names that didn’t move on towards the goal of 2010 Main Event Champion. Those that hit the rail today include Hall of Famer Mike Sexton, Main Event Champs Tom McEvoy, Carlos Mortensen, and Berry Johnston. And notables Dennis Phillips, James Akenhead, Brock Parker, Kristy Gazes, Greg ‘FBT’ Mueller, Daniel Alaei, Ted Forrest, and Amnon Filippi would also go bust, along with Eli Elezra and Antonio Esfandiari, who went broke on the last hand of the night to a very gross runner-runner 4-straight to end the day.
The surviving players today will hit the Rio on noon on Monday and join the survivors of day 2b, to house all of the players in the main event in one day at the Rio. While play will still be in both the Amazon and the Pavillion, we are inching closer to just 1 roof, the money bubble, and then the November 9. It’s an exciting time at the Rio.
