2010 WSOP – Day 2b Recap

DeucesCracked Pro and NAPT Mohegan Sun Champ Vanessa Selbst bagged 280,000 chips to end day 2b as one of the leaders
We’ve made it through day 2. It took 6 days of play to do, and our field which began at the size of 7,319 has shrunk considerably over the last 2 days of play. What began today as a total of 2,400 or so players, has dwindled to only approximately 1,300, which will join the 1,200 or so survivors from yesterday’s Day 2a. Tomorrow, all the players will have a much needed day off to rest and recuperate. For the players that survived to see day 3, the tournament still has a very long way to go.
Play will resume on Monday where the nearly 2,500 players will be competing all on the same day for the 1st time in the Main Event. It’s a special moment as the player from the Pavillion Room will try to work their way into the Amazon room, where we eventually whittle this gigantic field down to just 9 players, and a dream at becoming the next world champion.
Players that saw this dream come up short today, and found themselves on the rail include, Former Main event champs Doyle Brunson and Chris Ferguson. Previous Main Event final tablists Phil Ivey, Darvin Moon, Jeff Shulman, Philip Hilm and Hevad Kahn also went bust today, as did Andy Bloch, Josh Arieh, Tom Schnieder, Freddy Deeb, Shannon Elizabeth, Philip Hilm, Hevad Khan, Kirk Morrison, Gavin Griffin, and JC Tran along with so many more.
But players that survived the day with plenty of chips to spare, include notables Vanessa Selbst (280k), Phil Galfond (203k), Dave Sands (200k), David Benyamine (173k), Robert Varkonyi (160k), Allen Cunningham (156k), Eric Buchman (147k), Vanessa Rousso (140k), Kenny Tran (140k) and Jason Mercier (135k). Also making it through was MMA Announce Bruce Buffer (160k) and actor Hank Azaria (110k).
Tomorrow is the WSOP Media Tournament with 129 members of the WSOP media mixing it up in the Amazon room for bragging rights and an I-Pad. I will be playing at Amazon Red Table 271, seat 4. It should be a great event. I’ll have more for you as the WSOP continues to unfold from Vegas.
